All students on placement at Worcestershire NHS organisations can join the library service.  Benefits include:

  • information resources to supplement your placement.  You can borrow up to 8 books at a time (either 1 or 4 week loans).
  • a quiet place to study.  We can activate your ID badge to give 24/7 access to the libraries at Worcester and Redditch.
  • public access PCs.  Library staff can set- up your IT login (for use across the Trust) and each library has PCs available for you to use.
  • knowledgeable staff on hand to advise on searching for and using best evidence to support your placement and study.

Joining the library

Medical students
In most cases Medical Education staff will have passed on your details and you will be registered and ready to use the library as soon as you arrive.   Your registration lasts for the length of your placement.
Nursing and midwifery students
You will usually see a member of staff during your placement induction day and will be given the opportunity to join the library.  If not, just contact us or sign up using our online form. Your registration lasts throughout your course as you move around different settings within Worcestershire.
Occupational Therapy students
Please fill in our online form to join. Find out more about the resources on offer to support your placement in our Find Information section including books (electronic and print), journals and literature search databases.
Other health professions
If there isn’t a formal introduction to the library during your induction just drop in to register or sign up using our online form.

NHS Athens

Healthcare students have access to NHS nationally purchased resources throughout their course.  Your university may already have created an NHS Athens account for you, contact your Academic Librarian for more details.
Whilst on placement you are also entitled to use any locally purchased electronic resources provided by the library service.
You can sign up for a local NHS Athens here.
Remember to use your academic (ac.uk) email address and enter a placement leaving date.

University email

Due to IT security within the NHS we find that students are often unable to access University online services and email.  Please speak to a member of library staff if you experience problems.
